I was recently contacted by Caketoppers.co.uk to see if I was interested in reviewing their product: personalised printed cupcakes! Let’s be honest, who is going to turn down cake?!
The main predicament I had when they emailed was that I had to pick what image I wanted printing on the cupcakes.
I thought long and hard about this before having an idea to involve them in my Elf on a Shelf antics. Artie the Elf was coming to stay as of the 1st of December and I’d already been thinking about the types of activities he might like to get up to, baking being a hobby of mine, the cupcakes seemed like a perfect idea! Sam at Caketoppers was happy to send the cupcakes in time for the beginning of December which was very helpful of her.
The other cupcake indulged in a little obsession of mine…one I am yet to declare on my blog but maybe now is the time…Robbie Williams. When Sam emailed me I had just bought two tickets for The Heavy Entertainment Tour, which would be my 5th, maybe 6th Robbie gig. I’ve never missed a show and I’m losing count of how many times I’ve seen him! A fan since the early Take That days, even my closest friends are astounded by my obsession, I mean love, for him and with that in mind, who else’s face would I want on my cupcake?!
When they arrived they were neatly packaged in a box with bubblewrap and protective wrapping. They had not been harmed at all in their journey to the Roversi household, including the drop through my letterbox to the floor! I was suitably impressed by the quality of the image on the top and couldn’t wait to tuck into them but I had to wait for Artie to make his appearance first!
On the second day of Christmas, Artie the Elf had been baking during the night. Little L was astounded! “He’s been baking!” He said. “He’s got a mixer!” I told him that Artie would let him have his cake if he was a good boy at nursery so that night, for super, my little man tucked into his specially made cake. The pictures say it all!
I’m not stupid, I knew that the cake would be gone in seconds as soon as I put it in front of my son so I cut it up and tuck a quarter for myself to try…all in the same of research and this review obviously! Like I’ve said, baking is a hobby of mine and I know how difficult it can be to make something as simple as a vanilla sponge light and fluffy with a good flavour. Caketoppers did not disappoint in all of these areas.
The Robbie cake was chocolate flavoured and, when the little man was in bed, I indulged in it with a cup of tea and the Radio Times Robbie Williams interview – ten minutes of bliss!
If I’m being honest, I’m not the biggest fan of icing, however the frosting on these cupcakes was soft and sweet but not sickly. Like the vanilla sponge, the chocolate one was fluffy and full of flavour. There was a considerable helping of icing on each other, no paper thin layer that you can barely taste! Considering they were coming through the post, I expected them to be quite small but they were a standard cupcake size and the image was printed on more icing, no rice paper, so that added to the quality of the product.
I really enjoyed my cupcakes, as did Little L and I will definitely think about ordering again for birthdays and other celebrations, especially when I don’t have the time or motivation to make my own. It’s nice being confident that a company will create a pleasing product and have excellent customer service too.

These look really good! Robbie on a cake… whats not to love? I’m the same as you with frosting so it’s nice to know it wasn’t too sickly.
